Society6

Society6 is a “Print On Demand” (POD) online marketplace. As an artist, you can sell your original works of art, drawings, photos etc. on this platform in the form of posters, canvas, mobile covers, t-shirt prints and many other things. Much like RedBubble.

It was free for artists to have a profile and put their works for sale on the platform. However in 2023 Society6 have notified artists that there’ll be new fee system put in place later that year. The details about the amount and limitations came in, and deadline to choose a plan at the end of 2023.

On top of this, the artist will pay a shipping fee, that will be deducted from the sale. Read more here.

As a customer, you can support artists by buying their works here, and the artist then receives a commission for each purchase. Society6 is responsible for production and shipping.

If, as an artist, you want to sell your art elsewhere too, that’s perfectly fine. You retain all rights to your works.

If you pay for the Pro artist plan, the number of artworks you can upload is limited to 10.000. And there is no selection. After uploading, your works are ready for sale immediately.

Society6 is special in that there is a social network where you can follow each other, “promote” art by “liking” posts and commenting. Which helps to showcase one’s works to more potential buyers.

Commission to the artist is paid at the beginning of each month, to their PayPal account. There is no minimum threshold on payout. Payment is made in USD. You can follow each sale on your profile and see which product has been sold, at what price and which commission you will receive.

Society6 was great in the beginning, and gave me some extra income af a side business. But all the nice things died, and sales went down to practically nothing. If a small sale finally came through, it would be eaten up by the shipping fee. The app was a great tool, but that and the social network is dead. There is no society part in Society6, so the name doesn’t make any sense anymore. Neither does it to upload artwork or to try and make sales there. So, I don’t waste your time there.
